The modular synth maestro will headline two events in Johannesburg and Cape Town
Dutch techno artist Colin Benders is set to perform a live set this month at South Africa’s longest-running techno party, TOYTOY.
The modular synth maestro will headline two events in a double bill this weekend across June 7 – 8 — the first on Friday in Johannesburg and the second on Saturday in Cape Town, marking TOYTOY’s debut in the club-centric South African city.
Colin Benders will perform a live set at both events after carving out a niche with his epic modular synth shows. His Kyteman Orchestra, featuring 18 musicians, opera singers, and a choir, has garnered much praise in recent years, pushing the boundaries of live electronic music to its limits.
As an artist, he’s left behind the conventional method of writing and performing premeditated compositions, instead opting to improvise using live streaming and online video broadcasts as his medium.
Over the years, Colin Benders has toured the world with performances at festivals and clubs including Awakenings, Dekmantel, Le Guess Who?, Amsterdam Dance Event, and Berghain.
TOYTOY was first launched in 2008 as a sporadic pop-up party. Since 2011, the underground event has taken place each Friday at And Club, located in Johannesburg’s inner city, semi-industrial Newtown area.
Championing both South African and international electronic artists, TOYTOY has built a global reputation and a fierce local fanbase, now renowned as the longest-running techno night in South Africa.
Catch Colin Benders in Johannesburg at And Club on Friday, June 7, or catch him on Saturday, June 8, at Cape Town’s Apollo AV.
