HUGE BLAZE TEARS THROUGH FORMER NIGHTCLUB IN FIFE, SCOTLAND

Two large fires broke out at a former nightclub in Fife, Scotland, over the weekend, leading to the evacuation of 11 nearby residents.

Maxwell’s Bar, located close to the coast on Wellesley Road in Methil, Fife, went ablaze at around 12:30PM on Sunday. The fire could be seen from several streets away.

The abandoned club was once a popular nightspot in the Fife area. An investigation conducted by Fife Council’s building standards team has now begun, looking into the safety of the building.

Firefighters attended the scene shortly after the inferno first broke out, closing off roads in the surrounding area. A secondary blaze broke out at around 5:30PM.

Over a dozen fire engines headed to the scene to attack the blaze and continued to pour water into the “remains of the building” throughout the evening, local paper Fife Today reported. 11 people were evacuated from surrounding properties and placed in temporary accommodation overnight.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident, and are looking into “several positive lines of enquiry”, Fife Today reports.

“We received a report of a fire at a derelict building in Wellesley Road, Methil, which happened around 2.30pm,” said Levenmouth’s community inspector, Inspector Matt Spencer.

“The initial fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service however, around 5.30pm a secondary fire was reported at the same location. As a result, several properties were evacuated, and road closures were put in place.”

“At this early stage of the investigation, we are working alongside the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and other partners to establish the cause of the fire,” he added. “We are following several positive enquiries.”
