GOVERNMENT LEAK SAYS UK NIGHTCLUBS COULD REOPEN WITH “ENTRY CHECKS”

Written by on May 18, 2016

Leaked guidance says safety measures include temperature checks, hand sanitiser and distanced queues

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to announce the news publicly soon.

UK nightclubs could reopen with “entry” checks according to the latest government guidance.

The Times has obtained leaked information from the government and hospitality industry detailing that although clubs are “a challenging area to operate under any form of physical-distancing requirements” they could be allowed to reopen with “entry checks”.

The Times has splashed on new guidance concerning pubs, restaurants, hotels and gyms. The big headline is that the two-metre rule will be relaxed and that pubs, cafes and restaurants will be able to reopen on July 4.

Details concerning nightclubs are fewer than for other parts of the hospitality and leisure industry and no date has been given for their reopening.

However this is the first time that the government has addressed nightclubs at length, which is surely cause for cautious optimism.

Clubs with outdoor spaces look set to lead the way this summer. Studio 338 in South East London recently announced that it would be hosting outdoor events from July 2020.
